Answers to common questions about using it.you.
Using the tools
Do I need an account to use the tools?
No. The vast majority of tools on it.you work without an account. An account is only needed for features like saved tools, tool history, and support threads.
Are my inputs sent to your servers?
For most tools — no. Browser-side tools (JSON Formatter, Password Generator, Hash Generator, Base64, etc.) run entirely in your browser. Your input never leaves your device. Tools that require a backend query (DNS Lookup, WHOIS, IP Geolocation) do send your query to our servers, which forward it to the relevant external source.
How do I know if a tool runs in the browser or on the server?
Each tool page states whether it is browser-only or requires a backend query. Look for the "Runs in your browser — no data sent to our servers" notice near the top of the tool.
Why is a tool giving me unexpected results?
For browser-side tools, try hard-refreshing the page (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R) to ensure you have the latest version. If the issue persists, use our contact form to report a bug — include what you entered, what you expected, and what you got.
Can I use the tools programmatically?
Not yet via a public API — this is on our roadmap. Browser-side tools are open JavaScript; you can inspect the source. Backend tools have rate limiting applied. See the Roadmap for API access plans.
Accounts
How do I create an account?
Click "Sign up" in the top navigation. You need an email address and a password. No credit card is required — it.you is free.
I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
Click "Log in" then "Forgot password?". Enter your email address and we'll send a reset link within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
How do I delete my account?
Log in and go to your dashboard. Under "Account settings" you'll find a "Delete account" option. Deletion is permanent and removes all personal data associated with your account per our Privacy Policy.
Can I change my email address?
Yes. Log in, go to your dashboard, and edit your profile. You'll need to verify the new address before it becomes active.
Privacy and security
What data do you collect?
We collect email address and password (hashed with bcrypt) when you create an account. For backend tools, we log the queried domain/IP, timestamp, and a hashed version of your IP address for rate limiting. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
Do you use cookies?
Only essential session cookies for login. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. See our Cookie Policy for the full list.
I found a security vulnerability. How do I report it?
Use our contact form with subject "Security vulnerability". We have a responsible disclosure policy — we commit to acknowledging reports within 2 business days and not pursuing legal action against good-faith researchers.
